Erik Adolfsson, Briggs and Stratton 580cc V-twin
Vehicle: Woodstar ATC
Engine: Briggs and Stratton 580cc 90deg V2
Injection: Port injection 200cc injectors custom manifold
Description: The vehicle is a ATV for disabled persons see link
Website: http://www.woodstar.se
We built this engine as a project in school in the first place and after that
i've modified it further. It have never been run in the veichle only in a dyno
Our first modifications was:
Turbo GT12 from a SMART car exhaust manifold and turbo exhaust
housing cast together - not good for our application but cheap.
Intercooler from the same car
Custom inlet & exhaust
Compression lowered from 10.0 to 8.2
MS V2.2 (fuel only)
GM temp sensors, colant sensor mounted in one of the heads
This didn't work as well as we'd expected i think this was due to high
exhaust back pressure caused by a small turbo and bad exhaust manifold
design. This in combination with long duration cams caused massive exhaust backflow.
Second modifications:
Bigger turbo from a 90 Golf TDI
Better exhaust manifold
MsnS-Extra code - helped me to set cranking rpm, with MS standard
code I had to trick MS to read half the real RPM
The engine braked 45-50 hp at 0.4 bar boost and at this point the fuel injectors was to small.
Now I've mounted bigger injectors but not yet tested.
Planned future modifications is:
Making a intake with a plenum chamber
Controloing ignition by MS, I've read gielamonsters success story and
plan to do something similar.
Eventually rising compression back to 10.0 and running E85 (ethanol)
